Who wants to know if the baby is a boy or a girl?
by crankygeek ~ December 21st, 2005. Filed under: Family.I bet every couple goes through this. We’ll be going in for a high-res ultrasound shortly which is quite likely to give us the details. I’d like to know if it’s a boy or a girl, but my wife wants to wait.
I spoke with a few others about this and they are all on my wife’s side. :)
I’ll probably end up waiting as well since my wife is afraid that I may let it slip at some point.

This is retrospective and therefore useless now but, if you ever decide to have another child, you can tilt the odds of having a boy/girl by timing ovulation, usually by measuring temperature.
It theoretically works like this. Boy-producing sperms have a Y chromosome; girl-producing sperms have an X. The Y is much smaller than the X, so Y-sperms are faster then X-sperms because they have less mass to carry. However, X-sperms live longer than Y-sperms. So, if you know when ovulation is about to occur and you want a boy child, then you have sex just after ovulation. The Y-sperms, being faster, have a greater chance of reaching the ovulated egg. If you want a girl child, you have sex before ovulation. The Y and X sperms all get up in the tube and wait around for the egg to arrive. Since the X-sperms outlive the Y-sperms, you increase the chance of having a girl baby.
Does this really work (I hear you ask)? Nobody really knows because no one has good statistics. But, what the hell, it might be fun to mess with.
Anyway, Merry Christmas!!!
