Happy Independence Day to the Lakota Nation

by crankygeek ~ December 20th, 2007

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” - Thomas Jefferson

And sometimes it can be refreshed simply by asserting one’s natural right.

As noted by my friends Difranco and Mark (and a few other sources) the Lakota nation has declared its independence by withdrawing from treaties with the United States.

Congratulations to the Lakota. Maybe they will inspire more Sovereign Nations to reach for their own freedom?

Sysinternals PsTools - Command line remote management

by crankygeek ~ October 30th, 2007

Just blogging this so I don’t ever ever ever forget about it.

Sysinternals PsTools is a command line tool to remotely manage Windows computers.

Glug glug glug, hic!

by crankygeek ~ July 3rd, 2007

That’s the sound of me drinking up all the Apple Kool-Aid I can get.

I’m now the proud owner of a MacBook Pro and a new iPod (since Apple is practically giving them away when you buy a computer if you’re in education - on the downside, I’m just betting that solid-state iPods are on the horizon, but I sure couldn’t beat that price.)

On the software front, I still refuse to move away from Firefox, no matter how many people say they prefer Safari (or Camino). But I am running NetNewsWire and MarsEdit.

No worries about me completely dropping Windows, though. I’m working on installing it on some leftover hard-drive space. :) There is finally a new TopStyle beta in the works, after all, and there’s no way I’m not getting my .02 in on that.

Happy Birthday Nick

by crankygeek ~ May 11th, 2007

Normally, I make fun of people when they reach 40, but now that I personally see it rapidly approaching over the horizon (just a scant 2.5 years away) I’ll keep the smart-alecky comments to myself and simply wish Nick Bradbury a happy birthday.

Mom is blogging

by crankygeek ~ March 12th, 2007

It took awhile, but with some dedicated persistence on her part, Connor’s Mom finally has her own blog. If you’re interested in seeing tons of pictures of Connor, check out Brewster Zone.

A big reason it’s taken so long to get this set up is that I’ve been hunting for a gallery blog solution for quite awhile. I finally settled on zenphoto. It’s lightweight and, most important, supports publishing straight from Windows.

Not to mention that it’s got a great, very responsive community behind it.

Three thumbs up.
